We’ve just discovered Fortaleza – a small-batch, hand-crafted, 100 per cent agave tequila imported from the town of Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. And it’s a discovery well worth shouting about! The tequila is made by fifth generation tequila maker Guillermo Erickson Sauza, who uses the same methods as his forefathers. His range includes Fortaleza Blanco, Fortaleza Reposado and Fortaleza Añejo … and it’s almost impossible to decide which one is our favourite. Think smooth, flavourful, rich tequilas … agave and dried berries, citrus and honey, roasted nuts and cinnamon, figs and raisins. The bottles are hand-blown, some of them individually numbered, and prices range from R750 to R1300. You’ll find them at your favourite bottle store. Salud!
