So you’re looking for a romantic escape from home for a night or two … without leaving Joburg. Maybe you’ve just tied the knot. Or perhaps you’re looking for a way to spice up date night. Whatever the reason, trust us, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel is the answer.

Contemporary. Colourful. And slightly quirky. These are just some of the descriptions lavished on Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa. But surely it would be tantamount to sinful not to recognise that pretty much every thoughtful touch at this elegant hotel in the heart of Morningside screams R-O-M-A-N-C-E …  especially the swish rooms. The tasteful-cum-cosy furniture in front of fireplaces. The sophisticated decor. And the seriously comfy bedding … we’re quite sure in a setting like this, even those unromantic diehards would turn dewy-eyed!

We’ll put it to you plainly … you’re going to have a tough time leaving your room. But it really would be a pity not to explore all this classy hotel has to offer.

The gardens are pristine (and we mean pris-tine … the lawn is like a carpet). The gorgeous blue pool is a lovely spot to relax. But if you really want to unwind, you need to head to the Balinese-style spa … it’s nestled in a bamboo forest garden that’ll make you feel as though you’ve not only escaped Joburg and your daily stresses, but into another world completely. The therapists really know how to work their magic with Asian-inspired treatments. And the sound of trickling water will send you straight into relaxation mode. In one word … it’s bliss.

We could go on describing this enchanting spot … but you need to try it for yourself. So go on, book that date night for you and your special someone this month. Opt to stay in one of the luxurious courtyard suites for R4800. To top off your stay, you’ll receive a relaxing couple’s back, neck and shoulder massage as well as dinner, a delicious bottle of sparkling wine and a tasty brekkie the next morning. Book before March 31. Details: fairlawns.co.za or 011-808-7300.

Perfect spot for brekkie

If you’re not quite looking for a night’s stay but keen for a really lovely brekkie, Fairlawns is just the spot. (We rate theirs as one of the very best in our northern suburbs.) Opt to sit on the elegant terrace and choose from the buffet-style harvest table or the a la carte menu … they’ll both make your mouth water – and you won’t regret trying the eggs Benedict Milanese. (Brekkie’s R235.) You can also pop in for a tasty lunch, high tea or, if you stop by for dinner, be sure to raise a glass in the champagne room for an apéritif. Divine!
