Slices that delight. Heaps of passion. And a reasonably priced cappuccino. This is what makes Zaras Cafe JHB in Sandton stand out.
Proud owners and siblings Silvio and Alexia Beretta continuously squeeze love into making this casual café something refreshing for the locals to enjoy.
When you walk in, the décor is simple and clean with both warm and cool tones and a display of cakes and desserts that will have those with a sweet tooth swoon.
The name Zara is a shortened version of their aunt’s family name, Maro Zaroudoukas. She runs the original Zaras Cafe in Ballito. Big on family and big on flavour with a zesty menu with plenty of options to order from. Everything from your classic bacon and egg breakfast to café meals of burgers and baked goods to Mediterranean inspired dishes like the Spanakopita and Bifteki & Halloumi and some Italian flair of Napolitana and Parma ham. Locals love their Shakshuka sauce and travel far for the old-fashioned custard slice.
Named a finalist last year for Best Cheesecake in Joburg by 947 and this year scooping Best Bruch Location in the 702 Gauteng Greatest awards, they are making waves in the community.
We tasted the caramel and macadamia cheesecake and boy did it have all the elements of a good slice … smooth in texture, sweet and tangy in taste and to top it off a bold flavour combo. You also won’t be disappointed by the price of their coffees – starting from R24 for a cup.
They also stock frozen meals, fresh bread, sauces and dips. 329 Rivonia Boulevard. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 7am until 5pm and on Sundays from 8am until 1pm. Details: www.zaras-cafe-jhb.myshopify.com
