St John’s College launches new community tradition with Music Fest 2026

St John’s College will proudly launch a brand-new annual tradition with the inaugural St John’s College Music Fest, taking place on Saturday, 7 March 2026 at Burger Field on the College’s Houghton campus.

All in support of the St John’s College Centenary Scholarship Programme, the Music Fest is a family-friendly outdoor celebration bringing together students, parents, alumni, neighbours and the wider public for an afternoon and evening of live music, great food and community connection.

A standout South African line-up

The inaugural Music Fest, presented by the St John’s College Parent Association, will feature a stellar line-up of local talent, with more acts to be announced:

  • DJ Kent, award-winning DJ and producer and one of the most influential figures in South African house music
  • Vusi Nova, multi-platinum, award-winning Afro-Pop artist
  • Louise Carver, acclaimed South African folk-rock singer-songwriter and pianist

Performances will run from 14:00 to 21:00, creating a relaxed festival atmosphere suitable for all ages.

A festival designed for families and friends

The St John’s College Music Fest has been designed as a welcoming, inclusive outdoor experience. Festival-goers can look forward to live performances on the Main Stage, a curated food court, a relaxed drinks garden, and a dedicated kids’ play zone. Guests are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and camp chairs and settle in for a day of music, connection and celebration.

The event is open to the public and welcomes families, alumni, prospective students, neighbouring schools, wider communities and music lovers of all ages.

A festival with purpose

While the Music Fest celebrates music and community, it also has a powerful philanthropic purpose. All proceeds from the event will go towards the St John’s College Centenary Scholarship Programme, one of South Africa’s most respected scholarship initiatives.

Established in 1998, the programme provides full scholarships to outstanding Black South African boys from disadvantaged backgrounds. Each year, ten scholars are admitted into Grade 8, with fifty scholars supported across the College at any given time. The scholarship covers tuition, boarding, uniforms, books, medical aid and holistic learner support, and is widely recognised for its life-changing impact.
