Sony World Photography Awards come to SA for the first time

For the first time ever, South African audiences will have the opportunity to experience the acclaimed Sony World Photography Awards exhibition on home soil.

This August, the Roger Ballen Centre for Photography, in partnership with Creo and the World Photography Organisation, will present Decisive Moment: Sony World Photography Awards in Johannesburg. The exhibition will showcase a curated selection of award-winning images from the 2024, 2025 and 2026 Awards, offering a rare opportunity for local photography enthusiasts, creatives and the wider public to engage with some of the world’s most compelling contemporary photography.

Now in their 20th edition, the Sony World Photography Awards have set a leading standard for international photography recognition, continuing to discover and elevate the photographers shaping contemporary visual culture. More than 430,000 images from over 200 countries and territories were submitted across the 2026 competitions, reflecting the extraordinary scale and international reach of the Awards.
