We presume many of you are stocking up for the festive season … and here are a few of our favourite wines.
Sense of Place is a range of limited-edition wines which proudly takes its place as the flagship collection by Stellenbosch Hills.
SENSE OF PLACE KASTANJEBERG CHENIN BLANC
This show-stopping wooded Chenin Blanc is complex and aromatic with stone fruit, wild honey, dried apricots, violets and vanilla oak spice nuances. It hails from a unique single vineyard block, high on slopes facing False Bay. Kastanje refers to the Wild Chestnut trees that thrived in the Cape in the early 1800s. This wine pairs beautifully with crisp pork belly as well as brilliant spicy Asian cuisine or cream based dishes. R295 a bottle.
SENSE OF PLACE SUIKERBOSCHRAND CAPE BLEND
Named after the endemic Sugarbush Protea, this Cape Blend is a voluptuous wine with abundant aromas of ripe berry fruits, dark chocolate and cigar box. The wood flavours of the carefully selected oak barrels carry the wine beautifully and support its structure. The tannins ensure a lingering finish with a hint of fresh spice. It’s a 2020 Perold Absa Cape Blend Competition winner, and is lovely with red meats, whether grilled, roasted or smoked as well as creamy dishes. Around R395 a bottle.
SENSE OF PLACE ANNA CHRISTINA MCC
Enticingly elegant, this Chardonnay-driven Méthode Cap Classique shows aromas of fresh Granny Smith apples and citrus blossoms with a nutty yeastiness on the nose. Crisp acidity tingles the well-balanced palate while a delicate mousse delivers a satisfying, mouth-filling explosion of bubbles with every sip. Only 3000 bottles were produced. This wine pairs beautifully with fresh oysters or pate and if all else fails, on its own as your companion. Around R205 a bottle.
