Animal welfare organisations and rescue and rehab NPOs always go far and beyond in their ‘calling’ but they cannot do it without the support of the public. Why not show your support and even adopt a new fur baby and get to meet your favourite animal rescue hero as all animal rescue and rehabilitation groups come together this Saturday in Gauteng.

In support of World Animal Day on Saturday 8th October, The Rescue Collective SA (animal welfare organisation), have organised a ‘rescue expo’ which involves over 30 animal rescue and rehab groups taking place at Pirates Sports Club in Greenside, Gauteng.

The community are encouraged to attend and adopt from the more than 30 rescue organisations at the event, including: Spaniel Welfare, Greyhound Welfare, FORA, CLAW, Friend of Free Wildlife, Brainy birds parrot rescue, Rat Angels, Rest ur Ass Donkey Rescue, Animal Allies, Asher’s Farm, Dogtown….Healthy Hound missing pets (who find lost pets with their star team of dog searchers) and many more.

The Rescue Collective was started by three people who have spent most of their lives involved in animal welfare – Dean Bush, founder of Greyhound Welfare SA, Jennifer Gerner, former vet nurse for Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) and Cheryl Hunter, who has been involved across all aspects of animal welfare for more than 30 years.

“We want to create more networking among like-minded organisations to collaborate and support one another. The Rescue Collective – because charities working with each other are stronger together”, says Cheryl.

As NPOs frequently operate in silos and are too busy operating on shoestring budgets, they seldom have the opportunity to network among themselves and find areas of collaboration.

The rescue expo aims to be an annual event bringing together as many NPOs as possible to shed light on all animal welfare, not just dogs and cats, and to educate the general public on their great work in the community – from donkeys and garden birds to pet rats and parrots. And for consumers to meet the incredibly dedicated people who have given their lives to improve the welfare of the animals among us.

Besides adopting a new fur baby or meeting your favourite animal rescue hero, activities of the day will include: Food stalls, search & rescue demo, kids’ entertainment, donation drop offs, spot prizes, fundraisers, adopt-a-pup, microchipping, toys, treats, beds & blankets.

Dog and cat food sponsors will also be offering specials on the day.
