How clean is your bathroom?

We always think cleaning our bathrooms revolves around a clean toilet and bath/shower, and although these elements are important, making sure your bathroom is clean involves a great deal more.

“Maintaining clean and hygienic bathrooms is crucial for your and your family’s well-being. Clean bathrooms not only contribute to a pleasant and comfortable experience but also play a significant role in preventing the spread of germs and maintaining overall hygiene,” explains Bronwyn Ragavan, brand manager for Chemico. “But there are areas in a bathroom that go unnoticed and therefore are not cleaned properly, creating breeding ground for germs and dirt.”

When we clean our bathrooms it is vital for three reasons – personal well-being, preventing the spread of germs and for positive impressions. But this cannot occur when the following areas are ignored or simply wiped down during a clean:

  • The grout lines between tiles can accumulate dirt, grime, and mould over time. Regularly scrubbing and cleaning the grout with a brush and mildew remover can help maintain a clean and fresh appearance.
  • The basin, bath and shower drain can fill up with hair particles, soap residue and dirt. This is the perfect breeding ground for germs, fungi and bacteria as well as can play home to pests such as cockroaches and drain flies. Dirty drains also emit odours and can lead to illness causing family members to get sick. Cleaning your drains should be high on your list and using a drain cleaner such as Chemico Drain Cleen with its 3X extreme clean formula, available in both liquid and granules, gives you peace of mind that your drains are germ free, clean and smelling fresh.

  • Shower curtains and liners can harbour soap scum, mould, and mildew. They should be regularly cleaned or replaced to prevent the buildup of these unsightly and potentially harmful substances.
  • Often, areas behind and underneath bathroom fixtures like the toilet, sink, and vanity are overlooked. These areas can accumulate dust, hair, and grime. Regularly moving and cleaning these fixtures ensures a thorough cleaning.
  • Showerheads can become clogged with mineral deposits over time, affecting water pressure and quality. Regularly removing and soaking the showerhead in a vinegar solution helps dissolve the buildup and restore functionality.
  • Towel racks and hooks can collect dust and residue from towels and wet items. Regularly wiping them down and removing any buildup ensures they remain clean and functional.
  • The toilet flush is often just wiped over during a cleaning, but when you think of it, this is one place on the toilet that your hands always touch and should not only be cleaned by sanitised. Giving it a clean with Milton Sanitising Spray will help to keep the germs off and your hands clean (but don’t forget to wash them).

Your bathroom is the one place that is used “intimately” by family members and guests, and although we would like to believe they are clean because the bath and toilet are sparkling, other elements need to be taken into consideration in the cleaning routine so that you can without a doubt ensure that your bathroom is germ free.
