The power of a positive mindset

Janet Cloete is not just a leader in the beauty and wellness industry; she is an embodiment of inspiration, resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Her journey and the wisdom she imparts remind us of the power of a positive mindset, the value of continuous learning, and the joy of cherishing the moments that truly matter.

For over 15 years Janet Cloete has dedicated her career to the beauty and wellness industry as a somatol- ogist. As the branch leader at Skin Renewal Bedfordview branch, she has made a significant impact on both her clients and her team.

Janet’s journey in this field began with her love for the service industry, which she discovered during her time working with Carnival Cruise Line in the food and beverage industry. This experience sparked her passion for serving others and led her to pursue a career in the beauty and wellness industry.

From somatologist to branch leader

Janet’s path as a somatologist started with completing her somatology qualifications in two years.

After becoming a qualified therapist, she worked at a spa in Houghton, Johan- nesburg for a year before seeking a more challenging role. Her deter- mination and drive led her to Skin Renewal, where she initially worked as a therapist for three months before transitioning into a managerial role.

What inspired Janet to pursue a career in this field was her fascination with anatomy, dermatology, cosmet- ics, and general well-being. She found the opportunity to facilitate daily transformations for others to be the most rewarding aspect of her work.

Janet firmly believes that taking care of your skin should start early and be viewed as a long-term commitment rather than a quick fix. She educates her clients about the importance of preventative treatments and em- powers them to prioritise their skin’s health and well-being.

The rapid advances in technology and treatment innovations, combined with better-educated patients, have driven a shift in the overall approach to med- ical aesthetics. Consumers are increasingly informed, and there is a growing interest in preventative treatments as part of a comprehensive self-care regi- men. Aesthetic treatments are becoming normalised and embraced for their ability to enhance both mental and physical well-being.

Over her years in the industry, Janet has witnessed significant changes in the beauty and wellness field.

What sets her apart as a great somatologist is her nurturing and caring nature, along with her enthusiasm, drive, creativity, and empathy for people. She possesses excellent communication skills and a dedication to the profession, always striving for the best outcomes for her clients and their skin.

‘I value the journey I walk with my clients and I understand the importance of managing their expectations while delivering exceptional care.’ As the branch manager, Janet’s responsibilities are all-encompassing and ever-changing. Her main focus is always on the patients, ensuring exceptional and consistent care.

She believes that exceptional patient care is at the core of their business and encourages every member of the team to function with integrity, impecca- bility, and responsibility. By maintaining these high standards, she ensures the highest level of customer satisfaction and fosters a positive and nurturing environment.

Janet and her team are continuously exploring new trends and advancements in the beauty and wellness industry. They place great emphasis on combina- tion treatments for optimum results, tackling ageing, general well-being, and self-esteem from multiple angles. ‘The company invests in the latest technol- ogies, products, and training to provide their clients with the best possible outcomes,’ says Janet.

Leading her team

Her role transition from therapist to branch manager brought new responsi- bilities and challenges. While her experience as a therapist provided valuable knowledge, she had to adapt to a role that required multitasking and attend- ing to various demands simultaneously.

‘As a manager, I ensure that my team of therapists and doctors feel supported and motivated.’

She understands the importance of connecting with each team member on an individual level, recognising their strengths and weaknesses, and utilising this knowledge to bring out the best in each team member.

She fosters a positive and productive work environment by encouraging open communication and implementing strategies like completing the ‘five love languages’ questionnaire, which enhances understanding, support, and engagement among the team.

Her own beauty tips

When it comes to her personal beauty tips and skincare routines, Janet swears by the four integral pillars followed at Skin Renewal. The first pillar is all about the use of injectables such as botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, and threads to address lines, wrinkles, and other signs of ageing.

The second pillar focuses on monthly in-office treatments like lasers, chemical peels, and skin needling. The third pillar highlights the importance of using medical-grade skincare products tailored to specific concerns and skin types.

Finally, the fourth pillar highlights adopting a healthy lifestyle through Health Renewal, which complements the external treatments.

One memorable experience that stands out for Janet is when a patient ex-pressed their gratitude and stated, ‘You have changed my life.’ This moment exemplifies the positive impact that a somatologist can have on people’s lives and reinforces Janet’s commitment to her profession.

‘After all these years, what keeps me excited about the beauty and wellness in- dustry is not just being a part of it, but being a part of the Skin Renewal family. I look forward to the journey ahead, the continuous growth and development of the company, and the opportunities it brings to positively impact more lives,’ says Janet.
