An enchanting adventure to magical worlds awaits with Storybook Theatre. Peoples Theatre, proudly presents another series of timeless tales in their popular Storybook Theatre, which includes The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Princess and the Pea, and other fabulous fairy tales.

In this year’s magical production, running until October 8, children of all ages will fall in love with their favourite bookshelf classics all over again. Brought to the stage by Jill Girard and Keith Smith, Story Book Theatre is one event Johannesburg’s youngsters should not miss. Show times for schools are Tuesday to Friday at 9am and 11am.

The 27th edition of the Poetry Africa Festival will kick off in Johannesburg on October 5. The festival theme ‘VOTE4POETRY: MORE THAN WORDS’ celebrates the crucial role that poets’ voices play to strengthen and advance the values of a constitutional democracy.

The programme line-up will showcase a diverse array of established, mid-career and emerging spoken word poets taking part in performances, workshops, masterclasses, panel discussions and book launches. In Johannesburg, Poetry Africa will be presented in partnership with the Arts & Culture Centre at the University of Johannesburg.

Poetry Africa’s annual Slam Poetry Competition is one of the leading slam events on the African Continent. Poetry Africa’s 2021 champion Xabiso Vili participated in the World Poetry Slam Championships in Brussels and won the World Poetry Slam Championship.

The Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) invites runners and walkers of all fitness levels to enter the Benoni Northerns Night Race, sponsored by Jan L Jordaan Attorneys, on October 25.

The race, usually awash with colour and costumes, offers 5km and 10km events through the streets of Benoni with festive water stops, music and lights along the route. Entries are officially open and the BNAC is urging you to enter online before October 18. They will take late entries at the offices of Jan L Jordaan Attorneys on 1 Forster Street on October 23 and 24 from 9am to 3pm, and on the race day from 9am at Benoni Northerns sports grounds.

The entry fee for the 5km fun run is R100 (R130 late entries) and R150 (R200 late entries) for the 10km. There will be prizes for the first three male and female finishers of the 10km. Schoolchildren must wear their school uniforms. There will be prizes for the school with the most online entries in the fun run and the school with the first 10 athletes finishing the 10km race. The race will be at Benoni Northerns Sports Club at the corner of O’Reilly Merry and Brodigan Streets in Northmead at 7pm.

The golf day serves as a vital cornerstone for raising critical funds that directly supports the organisation’s mission of providing lifelong care and support to 300 children and adults living with intellectual disabilities.
