Our hottest date of the month … Dance, drama and a touch of magic on stage

If you love the thrill of live performance, mark your calendar – WGRUV Dance Company returns with their brand-new production JUXTAPOSE. And trust us, this is not your average night at the theatre.

Blending the grace of classical ballet with bold contemporary movement, JUXTAPOSE explores what it means to be human – think tension and release, vulnerability and strength, stillness and motion. It’s emotional, visually striking and packed with moments that will leave you holding your breath. Even better? The West Rand has a special reason to cheer. Local dancers Nicola Tolmay and Jenna Groves will be performing on their home stage. The evening features four captivating works by acclaimed choreographers, including WGRUV founder Holly Gruver and international choreographer Robyn Mineko Williams, exploring themes from vulnerability and memory to transformation and renewal.

In a world where we’re often glued to screens, JUXTAPOSE offers something refreshingly real: the raw power of the human body moving through space, emotion and story. It’s the kind of performance that pulls you right into the moment. April 9 to April 12 at Roodepoort Theatre. Tickets from R220 per person via webtickets.co.za

Nicola Tolmay
At 22 years old, Roodepoort-born dancer Nicola Tolmay is already making waves in the professional dance world. She began dancing at the age of four and trained in ballet, contemporary, modern and jazz under Wilcarina Yeates, Annebelle Herbst and Lieze Schutte-Slabbert. Nicola competed in the Roodepoort Dance Festival for over a decade, an experience that helped shape her discipline and artistry. Today, she performs with WGRUV Dance Company, with productions such as Letters of Reflection and Art Effect already under her belt. When she’s not on stage, Nicola shares her passion for dance by teaching at DanceSolutions and Move Dance Studio. “Dance has been part of my life for as long as I can remember,” she says. “It has shaped who I am and taught me the power of expression through movement.”

Jenna Groves
For 19-year-old Jenna Groves, dance has been a lifelong love story. She started dancing at just three years old and has since completed her AIDT Modern and RAD Ballet examinations, building a strong technical foundation for her expressive style. For Jenna, stepping onto a stage is about far more than performing. “It’s about sharing joy, telling stories and inspiring others through movement,” she says. Outside the studio, Jenna enjoys reading, experimenting in the kitchen and getting creative with crafts – activities that keep her imagination alive and inspire her artistry.
