Ronel le Roux: Bloemfontein’s beauty icon

Ronel le Roux is a multi-faceted talent in the beauty and style realm. She is a renowned image consultant, makeup artist, and stylist who has carved a unique niche in the Bloemfontein beauty scene.

Born a traveller, Ronel’s early life took her from Pretoria to Mafikeng and eventually to Hartswater in the Northern Cape. “I completed my studies in Hospitality Management in the Northern Cape and did my practical in Plettenberg Bay. After which I moved to Bloemfontein, and I’ve been calling it home ever since,” she says.

Her initial career in the corporate world spanned nearly five years, but she felt something was missing—her creative soul was unfulfilled.

A chance meeting with Annamarie Smit at the gym changed everything. Their friendship evolved into a creative partnership, with Ronel assisting Annamarie with makeup. This newfound passion ignited a spark within her, leading her to explore the world of makeup, fashion, and style.

“In 2014, I got the opportunity to work for an image consulting company, SA Image, as the office manager and I took the leap of faith to leave corporate and move into the beauty and image space. This is where I did my image consulting course and where I found my true passion for colour, makeup and fashion,” says Ronel.

Specialising in bridal and special occasion makeup, she became known for her artistic flair and her love for editorial makeup.

Her talents didn’t stop at makeup. In 2018, she decided to expand her services by adding hairstyling to her repertoire, becoming a one-stop destination for wedding and event preparations. She also established an academy to share her expertise with aspiring makeup artists through in-class and online courses.

Ronel’s unexpected journey into image consulting unfolded when Image Innovators SA recognised her potential in 2017. They invited her to run their South African branch and train as an international image consultant. “This was the sign I needed that this was the way forward. Here we are. Six years later. I am a fully qualified international image consultant.”

A typical day for Ronel is a blend of administrative tasks and client consultations. Her mornings begin with coffee and handling emails, quotes, and social media content. Client appointments fill her mid-morning to early afternoon, where she gives her clients her full attention. Ronel emphasises the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance, prioritising exercise and quality time with her husband.

“I have been married to the most loving, supportive husband for almost nine years this year. He is one of the biggest reasons that I get to live and build my dream, because of him, his support and sacrifices I am where I am, and I will forever be grateful for the amazing husband I have been blessed with,” says Ronel.

As for the future, Ronel recently completed a successful campaign with The Box Fashion and is eagerly awaiting the launch of her new website with an e-commerce store. Her vision includes offering digital image consulting products to make virtual consultations and self-help more accessible.

Beyond her career, Ronel finds joy in relaxation, nature walks with her husband, quality time with loved ones, and exploring trends while strolling through the mall.

Image consulting and styling with Ronel:

Since we’re exploring the world of travel this month, Get It has asked Ronel to share with us her top three must-packs when going away. We also asked her how we could turn these items from a casual daytime look into a fun nighttime look.

According to Ronel, packing a comfortable, neutral pair of pants, comfortable shoes such as sneakers and a jacket or blazer are a must.

“Dressing items up are literally my favourite part of styling any outfit. When you have a neutral pair of pants your options are endless,” she says.

“So, for casual day you can opt for a classic t-shirt or top with your neutral pants and sneakers – add a cap if you feel preppy. If it’s a little bit chillier you can add your jacket. Converting this into a night look with three simple steps,” she says.

  1. Add accessories like a dressy belt. 2. Switch your sneakers with heels and… 3. Don’t forget the lipstick. “It’s as easy as that.”
