SHE MEANS BUSINESS: Dr Jennifer Colling- General Practitioner

Dr Jennifer Colling, born and bred in Bloemfontein, is a general practitioner (GP) with almost ten years of experience in the field. As a little girl, she always hated seeing people hurt or suffer and liked the idea of making a real, tangible difference in people’s lives.

Dr Jennifer describes herself as extremely self-driven and she says most of her motivation to excel comes from within.

“I am also an introvert, although I love socialising with people I know well. I think being an introvert is a great quality to have as a GP as it allows me to listen more to my patients and get a better understanding of their needs, while also building a deeper relationship with them,” she says.

Dr Jennifer’s dream has always been to forge her own path and build her own practice. “In March 2025 my dream became a reality, and I opened my own private practice,” she expresses. “Although my practice is still in its infancy it has grown quickly over the last few months with the local community welcoming me with open arms.”

What makes Dr Jennifer a woman who means business is her ability to remain focused on reaching her goals in life.

“If I set my mind to do something, I will do everything in my power to achieve it. Sometimes it doesn’t work out, but that just motivates me to try harder with the next challenge. I take my job very seriously and although I am usually quiet and reserved, that should not be mistaken for weakness or lack of confidence.”

Running a business often times comes with its own obstacles. For Dr Jennifer, the financial aspect of starting a new business was especially challenging. “Luckily my family was eager to support my dream. Without their help I wouldn’t have been able to open my own practice,” she says.

Because her job involves talking to many different people daily, Dr Jennifer prefers to unwind by doing things where she can be alone and enjoy her own company.

“I love reading, painting, walking my dogs or just watching a good spy thriller series on TV,” she shares.
