Here’s our list of must-have or must-dos for March!

The original comfort shoe…

There’s no denying styles change, but no matter the look, your feet still need support, which is why we love Birkenstocks. Orthopedically they offer comfort and support that other shoes just can’t match, but still retain some kind of style. Because we’re headed for autumn and it’s still a great season for sandals, we have our eyes on these Madrid Eva Scuba Coral Sandals for R699. Upscale, ultra-lightweight, elasticated, washable and shock absorbent, these sandals are perfect for the beach, garden, leisure time and wellness environment. They have even won a Red Dot Award for innovative style. Order yours online at www.bashafrica.com

Spice up your sundowner sessions…

March to the beat of your own drum with a bottle of the first South African ginger beer made specifically as a mixer. Fitch & Leedes Spicy Ginger Beer is perfectly spiced to enjoy in cooler weather, but deliciously refreshing poured over ice on a hot day. Lower in sugar in comparison to most other ginger beers, it is best served in a cocktail like this Jerry Loves Ginger Cocktail. Ingredients: 1 part Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, 3 parts Fitch & Leedes Spicy Ginger Beer. Just  pour the rum into  an empty highball glass, fill with ice, top with Fitch & Leedes Spicy Ginger Beer and garnish with candied ginger. Available, boutique wine shops, selected delis, fine dining establishments and cocktail bars. It sells for R50 for a six-pack of 200ml cans or R52 per four-pack of 200ml glass bottles.

A gorgeous resting station for your coffee cup

We can’t deal! It’s on the floors of Cape Town-based studio, OKHA, for a whopping R47 027, but it’s gorgeous enough for us to wish we owned one! South African designer Adam Court has created this stunningly beautiful coffee table with tree trunk legs, Verde Magnifico marble top, and a roughness with innate irregularities that highlight the geological landscape of the Mother City and South Africa. The flame red travertine table top rests on four larch timber leg, that are wire-brushed to remove soft pulp and emphasize graphic carbon stained detail, as well as intentionally exposed beyond the marble top edges making it look somewhat like a bizarre and primitive landing pad. Still, it’s the kind of look you can’t help liking. Visit www.okha.com to view the full range. For enquiries or to place an order e-mail [email protected] or call 21 461 7233.

A gorgeous glass collection

Wondering what to stock your bar fridge with for the rest of summer? Well wonder no more… please meet the Glenelly Glass Collection. First up, the unwooded Chardonnay. Think zesty citrus fruits, melon, papaya and ripe pears laced with honeysuckle notes and a touch of cloves. An unwooded Chardonnay is not only an ideal summer wine, but it is also one of the most versatile food-friendly wines out there. A perfect accompaniment to fresh oysters, prawns, calamari, ceviche, fish on the braai, sushi, chicken on the Weber, cheese and bread … sounds like summer to us! Around R95 from good bottle stores. Then there’s the magnificent Cabernet Sauvignon which is also a great summer wine if you drink it slightly chilled (around 14 to 18 degrees). A 2018 Veritas Double Gold medallist, the Cabernet boasts notes of black currants and cherries, mint, roasted coffee beans and tobacco. Let’s be honest, there’s not much that beats a sunny poolside braai in the summer… juicy steaks, sticky barbecued ribs, wors, lamb chops and beef burgers… all you need is a glass of delicious red wine to complete the occasion. Around R105 from good bottle stores.

The scent of coffee

Imagine stepping in from the cold and being greeted with a steaming cup of coffee infused with cardamom’s sweet, sophisticated spice. And no… we aren’t talking about actual coffee. We are talking about Cardamom Coffee, a beautiful unisex perfume from Lush that captures that rush of warmth and hospitality. With a deep, sensuous Oudh oil heart, the warmth of olive leaf and syrupy rose; it will keep you cozy all day long as the seasons change and the weather cools.
