Remember the team that brought us the box office sensation ‘Material’, the hilarious, heart-warming film about a dutiful young Muslim man who moonlights as a stand-up comedian in Joburg nightclubs?

Well, they’re back! In New Material, Riaad Moosa, Schalk Bezuidenhout and Joey Rasdien are a formidable comedy team… the very best in home-grown talent who have no shortage of material in this sequel to the smash hit film that also stars Zakeeya Patel, Denise Newman, Kurt Schoonraad and Shashi Naidoo.

The film centres around much-loved character Cassim Kaif who continues to ply his trade as one of South Africa’s few Muslim comedians while balancing the demands of a marriage, a young child, and living in a house with his ageing parents. Directed by Craig Freimond, produced by Robbie Thorpe, and edited by Megan Gill, New Material comes to the big screen on November 26.

Sunrises, waterfalls and some off-roading are great starts to the day before heading to the office. Chasing Sunrises is a  monthly morning tour for those looking for a little extra morning motivation. Meeting ground is usually Engen Polo Pony Convenience, Assagay at 4.45am and from there Travis Duggan 4×4 open backs head for Clifton Canyon in Shongweni (a 20-minute drive) for a sunrise, light breakfast with mimosas and coffee, followed by an off-road trip through tunnels to a waterfall. You’ll be returned to your car by 8.30am. These truly breathtaking experiences offer a different way to meet new people, enjoy a change of scenery, host a team build or even have a tailor-made client meeting. Tickets are R550 including above and a little gift to go home with. Booking is essential. Details: To book e-mail [email protected]

Yay for late afternoon markets in summer, especially festive ones! So we’ll definitely be going to Westville Country Club’s Christmas Extravaganza this month. The event is a fundraiser for the WCC Eco Trail with a portion of the funds raised going to Pathways – a centre for children with severe cognitive and physical disabilities. From 3pm to 8pm there’ll be wine tasting, food, live music and a market featuring German Christmas Goodies and more. And when you’re done shopping and tasting, you can sit back and sip on a refreshing gin or craft beer. Details: 1 Link Road, Westville.
