5 Screen-free kids activities

We want to inspire kids to use their creativity and imagination. And we bet you do, too! While we’ve all learnt to rely on screens for work, school and connecting with friends and family, we know how important it is to take regular breaks. Here are some activities you can do with your kids over weekends or in your spare time.

1 Get creative

Grab some coloured pencils, crayons, or chalk and get your kids drawing! You might have them draw funny family portraits or choose characters from their favourite books to draw. Julia Donaldson’s Gruffalo makes a fine subject – your kids will love drawing his orange eyes, purple prickles and terrible teeth!

2 Get grooving

Put some tunes on and get dancing! A family dance party will put you and your kids in a good mood. Plus there’s nothing like a good boogie to wear the kids out a little. You could even create your own dance routine and live your  pop star dream!

3 Cook up some family treats

Cooking brings the family together, especially when things get a little messy. Whether you’re whipping up some brownies or trying your hand at homemade sushi (good luck!), the real treat is the bonding time you’ll enjoy as you all muck in together.

4 Organise a scavenger hunt

Get out in the fresh air and (hopefully) some sunlight! We’ve all been spending too much time indoors and a scavenger hunt is a great way to get the kids out and about.

If you’re lucky enough to have a Yoto Player (and we’ve got one to giveaway), you can tune in to Yoto Daily to take part in one of Jake’s regular Yoto scavenger hunts! Otherwise, pick a creative theme and design a fun-filled scavenger hunt in your garden or local park.

5 Work those green thumbs

Working with your hands can be very satisfying and you don’t need a garden to get started. Buy some seed packets from your local garden store and set up some simple plant pots on a window sill. Your kids will love seeing their hard work pay off when some herbs or flowers start popping their heads up for sunlight!
