Wishes do come true

When we think of magic, Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp is one of the first stories that comes to mind. That classic ‘rags to riches’ tale with a young hero, a beautiful princess, and an evil villain, made complete with genies, wishes and magic. This timeless story will be brought to South African Theatre stages this month, including The Globe at Suncoast, by Durban’s own Astrid Productions.

Based on an original text by Producer Anjil Naidoo, Aladdin has been reimagined for the stage by an international team of award-winning theatre artists and a cast of 20 of South Africa’s best.  Vash Singh and Yasmin Henkel play the lead roles of Aladdin and Princess Almas, and they are supported by the magical talents of Belinda Henwood, Rowan Bartlett, Darren King, Tsediso Kabulu, Senele Sibiyae, and an ensemble of extraordinary dancers. With riveting choreography and a script that is fun, witty and heartfelt, it’s set to be a production that no child, adult or theatre lover will want to miss. Tickets from R270 to R450. Apart from the race being one of the oldest, it’s also one of the prettiest, with picturesque and challenging routes (there’s a beginners’ 38km, a 65km, and the advanced 106km) that will see cyclists young and old ride for fun, for the competitive side of it or for a special cause. Let’s show them the same support we showed the Comrades runners! Details: www.shova.co.za.
