We’re rather enamoured with this hand beaded cake dome, one of the rather special bead and wire creations we found on @philippa_french on IG. Based on the Berea, this small company has homeware (the cake domes, but also chandeliers, candelabra and candle sticks) as well as interesting earrings, necklaces, bracelets, with beaded cushions and beaded shawls and pashminas coming up soon. For Christmas (never to early too plan!) there are Ndebele Christmas baubles (which are exported worldwide and are being put onto the Christmas tree in the Peter Jones department store in London this year … how cool is that!). They’re also happy to custom make special items for you. And the company’s going places … Philippa Spark and her two head crafters,  Nkulu and Cebi hope to open a Philippa French store in London and Paris within the next two years or so. Details: e-mail: [email protected] or @philippa_french on Instagram.

Botanical Flower Ritual Bath Salts are not just beautiful … they’re also beneficial. It’s said that using bath salts helps fight low energy, increases alertness, boosts skin health and helps reduce hormone-related problems like PMS symptoms. They also help with a good night’s sleep. The Amaryllis flowers at the end of October … and fans (scientists and laypersons) of this beautiful family will enjoy Field Guide to the Amaryllis Family of Southern Africa & Surrounding Territories by Graham Duncan, Barbara Jeppe and Leigh Voigt. Pretty watercolour plates and photographs complete the thoroughly comprehensive guide. R480.
