Where to start?
The first thing you need to do is set a budget. This will help narrow down your options and make the process less overwhelming. Once you have a budget in mind, you can then focus on the style of ring your girlfriend would prefer. If she is more traditional, then a solitaire moissanite ring might be the best option. But if she prefers something more unique, there are many other options as well.
Choosing the right metal
The most popular choices are gold and platinum, but there are also many beautiful rings made from silver. Silver is a much softer metal and more durable for engagement rings that will be worn everyday but, it’s an ideal option for smaller budgets or grooms who plan to upgrade their fiancé’s ring in a few years.
Gold is the most popular option as it comes in different colours (white gold, rose gold, yellow gold) and different levels of purity (9 carat, 14 carat, 18 carat) based on your colour preference and budget. Platinum only comes in one colour and is the most durable option. It is also the metal that costs the most.
Choosing a setting
The most common settings are prong and bezel, and you want something that stands up to daily wear for a long time to come. The setting is what holds your moissanites in place in your ring, so you want to look for something that will not only display your gemstone, but also keep it protected from knocks and bumps. Poor settings can result in prongs failing and gems falling out, which is not ideal.
