Blooming gardens open

From simply manicured sanctuaries to exotic green spaces with meandering pathways, Kloof Rotary Ann’s have three beautiful gardens to present at this year’s weekend-long Open Gardens, on October 14 and 15, with proceeds going to local charities and feeding schemes.

Here’s a look at what you’ll be treated to …

Garden 1

Ian Todd and Paul Bushell, 11 Lyngarth Road, Kloof

This lush Kloof single-acre garden has been paired back to create a manicured and simple sanctuary surrounded by a combination of Plane and indigenous trees. The rolling lawn is formalised with impressive urns and boxed gardens to create a more contemporary feel. There is also a lovely vegetable garden.

Garden 2

TWIMS (formally Crowhurst), 74 Everton Road, Gillitts

This garden is both indigenous and exotic with meandering pathways. Mass plantings have been achieved to keep the garden organised and easy to explore. Lovely old trees and a beautiful pool area complete it.

Garden 3

Almut Buhr, 1 Sandlee, 4 Coghill Ave, Kloof

This indigenous and exotic garden tucked away in the heart of Kloof has many rooms. From the driveway you can turn right into a shady forest and moss garden, with a vegetable enclosure in one corner, or you can walk straight up past the fountain filled with fish, through a stone wall into a flower garden, and then onto a lovely lawn with beautiful flower beds.

Kloof Rotary Ann’s Open Gardens will be open daily from 9.30am till 4.30pm. Entrance is R30 per person, per garden, payable at each garden by cash or zapper. Children under 12 can enter for free.
