Music-lovers are invited to get into the spirit of the season in the company of the Durban City Orchestra as they perform a magnificent programme of festive-inspired songs, Yule-tide tunes and well-loved carols. The programme includes a host of Christmas favourites – O little Town of Bethlehem, Away in a Manger, Ding Dong Merrily on High, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, Once in Royal David’s City and Oh Holy Night. Soloist for the concert will be multi-talented Rachel Nell, who usually plays the violin in the orchestra and will, this time around showcase her voice. Please dress festive and join in on the singing. Song sheets will be given out. The musical afternoon kicks off at Rhumbelow Northlands Bowling Club on Sunday, December 8 at 3pm. Durban Art Gallery will host a theatre production by The JuxtaPlace called A Thrill of Hope. Written by Lithakazi Mkombe and Nhlaka Twala and choreographed by Mzamo Kunene, this hilarious play is set in the backyard of a lower middle class family and is based on the lives of only three characters – uDadobawo, i2000 and the family chancer – and explores disappointment and hurt in the greater call of love. This is a story that is relatable to everyone who has loved or wanted something bigger than what they already have. Curtains up at 2pm on Sunday, December 15.
