Da Costa Inc … property law perfected

Celebrating 15 years of trusted legal expertise, Da Costa Inc is a KZN-based property law firm known for its dynamic team, rapid growth and client-first approach.

Founded in 2009 by Annabelle da Costa, whose passion for Property Law, Conveyancing and Notarial Practice laid the foundation, the firm has grown from strength to strength. Today, it’s steered by a powerhouse trio of directors: Annabelle herself, Chevon Pillay-Govender and Bianca Els.

Marking its 15th year in practice, Da Costa shows no signs of slowing down. The past year alone saw significant expansion, with the firm now operating out of five offices across KwaZulu-Natal.

What’s behind this steady rise? “Long-standing client relationships and a team that treats every transaction with the kind of care, efficiency and precision you’d expect from a top-tier legal practice. That personal touch, combined with a solid professional ethic, has made Da Costa the go-to firm for both big-name and boutique real estate agencies,” says Annabelle.

We caught up with newly appointed director and manager of the Upper Highway branch Bianca Els, to find out more about the firm’s growth, values, and what’s next for the Da Costa Inc team.

Bianca, what do you love most about conveyancing?

I love making a difference in the lives of our clients. A property transaction is regarded as one of the most stressful acts in someone’s life, so being able to guide, advise and remove the stress from our clients makes conveyancing very special.

What makes your firm different?

We pride ourselves on our ability to make deep meaningful connections with our clients. This allows every individual who interacts with a representative from our firm to feel comfortable, and we are there every step of the way to guide our clients through the conveyancing process. Not only does this remove any aspect of uncertainty or mistrust, but it allows for a smooth transaction to be completed with minimal chance of risk and miscommunication.

Charity organisation that’s close to your heart?

If there is anything I love more than a quick and efficient conveyancing transaction, it’s animal welfare. Animal rescue occupies a very big part of my heart. While studying law, I was a dog rescue volunteer by day and a law student by night. I still assist with dog rescue where I can.

I was a foster Mom for Project Dog for many years, and have helped to nurse and rehome hundreds of dogs and puppies. I would encourage the public to support this amazing, selfless organisation.

What made you specialise in property law?

I worked as an administrator at a real estate firm straight out of school and have always been drawn to the prospect of property law. There is no winner or loser in property law and conveyancing, which makes it different from other areas of the law. The reward in conveyancing is guaranteed.  I love being able to work with a variety of clients, with every matter being different. I thrive in a fast-paced environment, and this career is incredibly rewarding.

Tell us what Da Costa has up its sleeve this year?

Our offices are rolling out our Property Academy Training Programme again this year. This time, we are focusing on the Upper Highway area, and our first session in March was a massive success. We host monthly training sessions on different aspects of property, and it’s a great opportunity for real estate agents, whether new to the industry or highly experienced, to learn, grow, and network. It also allows them to streamline their knowledge of property transfers, sale agreements, dealing with clients, and the like.

What makes your Upper Highway team so special?

We are a diverse and energy-driven team of go-getters who are passionate about conveyancing, with the same vision in mind – service excellence.

We laugh together, bounce ideas off each other and we provide support to one another in any given situation.

We are a team that fits well together, not only for property transactions but on a personal level as well – and this is a recipe for success.

With a team of phenomenal directors at the helm and a reputation for service excellence – there really is no stopping this firm on its journey to the top.
