The North Durban Probus Club for retired professional business people held a Christmas in July function on Monday, July 14. The event was held at the Rolling Hills Country Club with all the Christmas trimmings – from table decor to a Christmas meal and pudding.
Guest speaker was Durban North Couturier, Sandy Day, who took the 61 attendees on a trip down memory lane with a touch of nostalgia. She shared how she started off as a sign-writer in Johannesburg and even worked in the Walt Disney studio for some time. Sandy also showed a collage of photographs when she held a fashion show in Oshakati during the bush war – the fashion show clothing was all made from parachute material. The most interesting story was “What happened to the Mummy” (from the Natural Science Museum in Durban) and all the clothing and jewellery she made to co-incide with the Egyptian theme.
