Say Cheese!

The easiest way to entertain over the festive season (three of our favourite words … easy, entertain and festive) is with a massive platter of cheese and some fabulous wine. And there’s a new, very delish option that’s just hit the shelves.

Tomme de Waterkloof is a semi-hard, French-inspired cheese locally handmade by the award-winning Healey’s Cheesery & Deli at the biodynamic Waterkloof Estate near Somerset West. This  creamy newcomer is not only tasty and gentle on the palate, but vegetarian-friendly. It’s a little sweet and spectacularly creamy. It’s an easy melter (so perfect for burgers) and is exceptionally good when paired with a wine like the Waterkloof Seriously Cool Chenin Blanc. You’ll find it for around R40 for 150g at the Cheese Gourmet in Linden.  And if you’re lucky enough to be heading to the Cape for the December hols, you can visit the Healey’s Cheesery & Deli on the Sir Lowry’s Pass Road, Somerset West – daily from 8.30m.  You can also view the cheese-making process on Mondays to Thursdays.
