With its off-road triathlon series, Woolworths is on a mission to get more people outside, being active and enjoying a healthy lifestyle. And at the same time, raising funds for developmental programmes and initiatives in previously disadvantaged communities.

This coming Sunday, September 25 you can join the Woolworths X TRI at Buffelspoort Dam – swim, bike, run (and walk) and it is open to athletes and enthusiasts of all fitness and skill levels.

For the semi-fit, there is the X TRI LITE, which comprises of a 400m open water swim, 12km Jeep track mountain bike and 5km off-road run. Or, for those just looking for a nice day outdoors with family, there are two options: The run for fun, which is a 5km off-road run (that can also be walked) and the walk for good — a 3km nature walk suitable for all ages.

But, an off-road triathlon wouldn’t be the same without a hardcore full event for the more serious and elite athletes. The X TRI FULL is technical and tough and features a 1000m open water swim, 27km technical mountain bike and 12km trail run. The swim will take place at Buffelspoort Dam (just off the N4 highway along Marikana and Buffelspoort roads), while the mountain bike and trail run routes will feature the characteristically rocky, technical trails of the highveld and offer some spectacular views of the Buffelspoort Dam and Magaliesberg mountain range.

As part of Woolworths’ sustainability focus, athletes will receive a sapling tree as a medal at the finish line. And, all the efforts to get to that finish line will be worthwhile, not just for an awesome day out for you and your family but for a greater cause too. Proceeds from the event will go to the Woolworths Trust, a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) created in 2003. The Trust is a collaborative effort and works in partnership with various organisations, to make a difference in local communities by funding programmes that improve food security, reduce child vulnerability and uplift education.
