With two sides to the market, the antiques and collectables section offers you over 100 stalls where you can browse for all kinds of antiques and collectables including toys, books, war medals, coins, cameras, ornaments, stamps etc. The arts and crafts section consists of 80 stalls with vendors selling all manner of handmade items like vellie shoes, handbags, hats and belts, Boerseep, artworks, iron arts and crafts, wooden items like money boxes, cutting boards, wooden toys etc, as well as honey, olives, cheeses, baked goodies, plants and more. 19 The Cancer Association of South Africa’s (Cansa) popular Cuppa for Cansa fundraiser is in full swing. The campaign ends on October 31, so there is still plenty of time to plan an event.

Cuppas can be arranged to coincide with special events or public holidays but can be hosted at any time of year (although Cuppa host materials, usually provided during campaign time, may then not be available). Anyone can host a Cuppa for Cansa in association with Cansa.

22 Nite Fever is a sizzling 70s celebration – a decade that we will musically never forget. The Bee Gees, John Paul Young, The Village People, Rod Stewart, Boney M, Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, Donna Summer, and tributes to musical soundtracks such as Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and The Rocky Horror are all featured in this high-energy show.

29 This year marks Kewpie Nursery School’s 40th birthday and it’s time to celebrate. Join the school on October 29 for their family fun day at Hoërskool Alberton from 10am to 3pm.

The big birthday bash is open to the community, current and former Kewpie members, and learners. There will be a variety of arts and crafts stalls, music and lots of entertainment for the children on this exciting day. The entrance fee is R10 per person, and Kewpie learners and children under six are free. Don’t forget, no cooler boxes, but you will find plenty of food and beverages at the food stalls and beer tent. Are you a hobbyist or a small business owner?

03 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year Org Meyer Voortrekkers is daring you to paint the nails of someone you know pink, for a donation of your choosing.

Paint it Pink will run throughout October with thousands of brave men and women painting their nails pink for cancer awareness. Through Paint it Pink, people who do not typically wear nail polish are challenged to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Once you have painted your nails, take a photo and share it on your relevant social media application. Do it for the people who have lost the battle and show that they are not forgotten. Do it to show that we have not lost hope.

08 Treat your young ones these school hols. Peoples Theatre is staging the endearing crowd pleaser Mr Hare meets Mr Mandela for a limited season at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre and Studio, until October 9.

Warm your hearts with the tale of how Mr Hare takes on the biggest lost-and-found adventure. An original production of one of Chris van Wyk’s last stories, Mr Hare Meets Mr Mandela is ideal for the whole family and will be on tour at Montecasino. The cast of four dynamic, charismatic professional actors engages the audience with active participation, fun, comedy and adventures. With a brand-new script, joyful music and characters aplenty, the show promises to be fun for the whole family, as well as teaching children the many wonders of stories and being able to read them.

 15 Unleash the creative you and book for a stained glass workshop in the tranquil settings of Henley on Klip on October 15. Workshops last for about four hours and you will complete a suncatcher, which is yours to keep. All tools and materials, as well as instructions, are provided. Workshops are aimed at people who want to try their hand at the art before they commit to buying the equipment and, of course, at those who want to have an afternoon of fun with friends.

 21  Not to be missed is Schalk Bezuidenhout’s fifth one-man show, Keeping Up at Theater of Marcellus Emperors Palace on October 21 and 22.

Schalk Bezuidenhout used to be woke AF (is that what the kids say these days?) What does AF even stand for? Point is, Schalk used to be the liberal guy at the braai. But it’s happening more and more that Schalk, and all of us for that matter, has to count his words.
