Did you know that some of the most beneficial medicine can be bought at your local supermarket? Herbs and spices have been used for their health benefits for most of history.

We’re not talking about table salt or braai spice, using herbs in spices for your health means going back to the basics like cinnamon, cocoa, cumin, garlic, ginger, rosemary, turmeric, and hot and spicy chili peppers.

Think about adding some of these herbs and spices to your next meal — it may be life-changing:

Cinnamon — it’s sweet and tasty but may also help with inflammation, fend off free radicals that can damage your cells, and fight bacteria.

Cocoa —  contains antioxidants that have been shown to boost heart health by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure and helping keep your coronary arteries healthy.

Cumin — it’s naturally rich in iron and may play a role in weight loss, too.

Garlic — it’s not only used to ward off vampires, but crushed garlic may also lower your chances of getting heart disease.

Ginger — can help with an upset stomach as it has a calming effect on the lining of your digestive system.

Rosemary — is rich in antioxidants and its fragrance may boost brain activity.

Turmeric — can ease inflammation and pain.

Chili peppers — not only will it give your food a kick, but it also may boost your metabolism and help keep blood vessels healthy.
