Garlic, cheddar, back and beer bread…. Need we say more?!

It’s the weekend, baby. And you know what that means. A traditional South African braai is not complete without garlic bread on the side. Instead of buying it, try this easy recipe that is sure to leave your guests wanting more.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups self-raising flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 340ml Castle Ale
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup bacon (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp parsley
  • ¼ cup butter melted

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 190°C.
2. In a large bowl, gently stir together the flour, sugar and beer until it is combined.
3. Then, gently stir in the cheese, bacon, garlic powder and parsley.
4. Pour the resulting batter into a greased loaf tin.
5. Pour the melted butter on top of the batter.
6. Cook for 50 minutes to one hour, or until a skewer inserted into bread comes out clean.
7. Let the bread cool for at least five minutes before serving.
