Colour is everything

Brown is the new black and it’s not as boring as it sounds. Head-to-toe outfits in cream, beige or camel were first spotted in spring 2019, but for the colder seasons, you can look forward to warmer tones of tans and golden browns paired with mustard yellows and opulent jewel tones.

While fashion is turning more towards nature for inspiration, it’s not ignoring the impact that technology has on our lives. Digital colours like lilac pinks, deep mints and darker reds are all part of this trend and pairs well with lighter colours.

As the temperatures drop you can also expect to see a lot of darker browns such as Tree Bark and Truffle as well as slate and charcoal for the more classic looks.

Look out for prints

Never underestimate the power of a good print. If you’re struggling to put an outfit together, start with a print and combine items in colours found in the print for a polished and co-ordinated outfit. This season we are seeing quaint hand-drawn florals and leaves that mimic the changing of the seasons.

Florals are usually associated with spring, but if you keep to more muted tones it is guaranteed to go with all your transitional wardrobe items. And for winter… don’t get rid of any check prints you might have. Traditional tweeds and tartans are definitely here to stay.

Shop these staples

Who says suits are strictly for the boardroom? Follow suit with one of the biggest trends this season – the power suit. Matching coloured suits are available in various fabrics, colours and silhouettes. Wear it during the week with strappy block heels or with sneakers and a tee over the weekend. A matching suit always gives a polished look, but you can also wear the blazer and trousers separately to open more options. Wear your blazer with skirts and dresses or your trousers with blouses and knits.

The slouchier shape in a powdery pink colour will definitely make a statement.

If you have a bolder style, a suit in a marvellous marigold colour makes for a sartorial showstopper.

Loving Layers

The days of having a summer and winter wardrobe are over! Why would you want to pack some cute summer pieces away if you can wear it all year long? The secret to this is layering 3-4 pieces. Pick carefully because you should be able to wear each piece on its own or together with one other item to ensure that your outfit stays interesting. For example, a collared shirt, knit, jacket and scarf. As the day gets warmer, you can either remove your scarf and jacket or even your knit and jacket – and you will still look polished.

If you are fuller figured, colder seasons can be daunting. Instead of layering up with thick jackets or knits that add unnecessary volume, rather opt for a thin thermal vest or tank top that keeps your body heat in and then add a normal shirt, blouse or dress over. Just make sure the tank top or vest is not visible, as that is not the look you’re necessarily going for.
