How to offer a much needed helping hand

With so many people and businesses gutted by the impact of the Covid-19 virus and lockdowns, now is the time to reach out and help where you possibly can.

One great initiative to became part of is the #LoveJesusLovePeople campaign from the KSM church in Centurion and Midstream.

They are challenging their own congregation, as well as anyone in Gauteng, to provide a cooked and frozen four-portion meal and drop it off at the church. The meals are then distributed to frontline medical workers once a week as a gesture of appreciation and to relieve the additional burden of having to still cook for their families after gruellingly long shifts.

What is even better is that people are encouraged to buy the meals from local restaurants and ask them to place these take-away portions into a foil food container provided by the church, thereby helping the struggling restaurant industry at the same time.

This small, yet significant gesture is one of the three focussed Covid responses being driven by the church in which everyday people are motivated to make a difference in a manageable way.

The church is also providing ribbon and cards for residents to collect and then attach to a simple bag of vitamin-rich oranges and drop this small gift off at the gate or door of anyone in their neighbourhood that they know is Covid positive or isolating. At the same time, they are committing to praying for their neighbours as individuals.

A vast majority of South Africans however, cannot afford to give meals and gifts. Faced with the fearsome prospect of not being able to put food on the table, KSM is also providing 7 000 meals every single month, and have, since the start of the pandemic, provided over 1 million meals. Anyone is welcome to also donate to KSM for this cause.

Everyone is welcome to watch the Afrikaans online worship services, every Sunday, from 9am on the kerksondermure YouTube channel.

To become involved, contact the Centurion church on 012 663 2003 and Midstream church on 012 940 9480 or visit ksm.co.za.
