It’s sparked spontaneous singalongs at movie theatres and has gone viral on TikTok – and now you can be part of the Unwritten magic when hit romantic comedy Anyone But You lands on your screen soon.
Brought to you by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Anyone But You is an edgy rom-com starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell as Bea and Ben, sworn enemies who are forced to “fake date” at a destination wedding in Australia – and, of course, sparks fly.
During a scene in the film, Ben eases his fear of heights by singing Natasha Bedingfield’s 2004 hit song Unwritten – and it’s touched such a nostalgia cord in audiences that, 20 years after it first topped the charts, the track has now blown up all over again.
TikTokers have enthusiastically adopted Unwritten as their own unofficial “serenity song”, posting edits and dance challenges that have racked up millions of views. Hot on the heels of its revitalised popularity, the high-spirited pop anthem re-entered the UK Top 20 and has racked up millions of streams.
Sweeney and Powell even joined Bedingfield on stage for a rendition of the iconic song at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards – with the audience singing along with gusto. “I get sent videos every day of people singing Unwritten at the top of their lungs,” Bedingfield told British GQ. “It’s one of those [songs] that feels good to sing.”
