What makes Africa the “Heart of the World”? Is it the rhythm? The resilience? Or maybe the fact that even when life says “hayi khona” (“not today”), we find a way to laugh, dance, and keep moving forward. For comedian Kevin Fraser, it’s all of that — and this holiday season, he’s inviting audiences across South Africa to come celebrate it with him in his brand-new show, Heart of the World.
Kevin’s no stranger to a packed-out theatre. From The Minister of Entertainment to Africa is a Feeling, his sold-out tours have taken him from Joburg to London, Dubai to Sydney, and everywhere in between. But Heart of the World feels different. It’s part stand-up, part storytelling, part musical celebration — and 100 per cent Kevin, with his trademark “entertainment comedy” style that blends belly laughs, accents, dance moves, and the kind of sharp social observations only he can deliver.
“This isn’t just a comedy tour,” Kevin says. “It’s a pilgrimage into the chaos, rhythm, and character that make Africa what it is. We laugh here not because life is easy, but because it’s ours.”
Expect the unexpected. One minute he’s ranting about everyday frustrations, the next he’s morphing into a cousin with a bakkie or an aunty with very strong opinions. And just when your ribs are already aching from laughter, he might bust a dance move that’ll leave you wondering if you accidentally bought tickets to a comedy show or a dance performance. Spoiler: it’s both.
What makes this tour even more exciting is Kevin’s collaboration with singer Siki Jo-An, The Voice SA finalist and powerhouse performer. Together they’ve created a song especially for Heart of the World, adding a soulful new layer to the comedy experience. “I can’t wait for people to hear it,” Kevin says. “It brings something completely different to the show — it’s beyond the laughs, it’s a feeling.”
Of course, Kevin’s journey to the stage has been as colourful as his comedy. He started out as a DJ in Durban at just 16, spinning sassy house beats that electrified dancefloors. After moving to Johannesburg in 2013, he quickly became a staple in the local entertainment scene before relocating to Australia, where he founded Cream Kulture and began producing events. Then came the pivot that changed everything: comedy and content creation. By 2015, Kevin’s videos had gone viral, his quintessentially South African characters striking a chord with expats and locals alike. Today, his community of fans stretches across continents, united by laughter and his uniquely South African lens on life.
Now he’s back on home soil, ready to take audiences from Pretoria to Cape Town, Nelspruit to Knysna, on a safari of satire, spirit, and shared joy. As Kevin puts it: “Africa is where we come to laugh, to listen — and to feel at home.”
