Necessary Skin Spoils

With beautiful, state-of-the-art aesthetic clinics situated across the country, the anti-ageing, pigmentation and acne specialists at Skin Renewal are passionate about helping their clients reach their skin goals. Our editor was recently invited to their Ballito clinic.

There is something incredibly comforting about being assessed and treated by a professional. Especially when it’s for your skin. While regular facials might seem like a ‘spoil’, once you’ve had a Skin Renewal specialist look at and advise you on your skin, it seems like much more of necessity than a treat.

But a wonderful treat it is, nonetheless. I recently enjoyed my first (and certainly not my last) visit to the Ballito Skin Renewal branch and was blown away by the exceptional quality and standard of service and care – not to mention the classy and upmarket design of the interior of the clinic itself.
As you enter the clinic, which is situated just off of the M4 in Regency House, Douglas Crowe Drive, you are immediately transported into a modern, high-tech, yet somehow still warm and welcoming space where it’s easy to see that professionalism and cleanliness are top priorities.

One of 18 branches around South Africa, Skin Renewal Ballito is managed by doctors who are experienced in the field of anti-ageing, aesthetic and integrative medicine and supported by qualified staff, including technicians, nurses and therapists.
After filling in a few necessary forms and the standard Covid procedures, my therapist, Taz Leighton, took me through the wide variety of services on offer. They truly do have something for everyone – whether you’re just dipping your toe into the aesthetic world or are looking for more serious treatment options.

Services include Botox and Dysport, dermal fillers, threats, PRP, IV drips, chemical peels, mesotherapy and microderabrasion, scar and vein removal, Dermapen needling and lipolysis, as well as a wide range of laser, light, radiofrequency and ultrasound technologies.
Once Taz had done an extensive review of my skin and decided on a treatment plan for the day, it was time for me to simply get comfy and enjoy. After cleansing thoroughly, she started with a round of microdermabrasion – a gentle exfoliation that blasts crystals onto the skin, lifting and removing dead cells.

This was followed by transdermal mesotherapy using a technique called ectroporation, whereby, with the use of a current, microchannels are temporarily created within the skin allowing for deeper penetration of the serum applied. For my particular skin, Taz used hyaluronic acid for hydration and plumping as well as stem cells to allow for the regeneration of new healthy tissue. Next up, Taz used a red LED light to do some phytodynamic therapy to reduce inflammation and boost repair and regeneration of my skin. Lastly, she applied a wonderful alginate mask to cool, soothe and hydrate my skin. While the mask was on, she gave me the most incredible neck and décolleté massage … I may have dozed off, I won’t lie!

If taking care of your skin is on your list of priorities for the year ahead, then I strongly recommend a visit to Skin Renewal to chat to their experienced and incredibly kind staff about the right option for you. I left the clinic feeling relaxed, hydrated and radiant and I honestly can’t wait to go back and, maybe, even try something a little more daring next time!
