The unconventional bride

Nothing says ‘unique’ like a bride in a black wedding gown! This exquisite wedding was planned and executed by North Coast wedding planners Oh Happy Day. Here are the details…

“We are a wedding planning company that loves to push the boundaries creatively,” says owner Jolene Botha. “We love bold and bright … but we also love black. So, when our bride Nadia Buckley told us she’d be wearing a black wedding gown on her special day and that her husband Tim would be wearing a black Tuxedo (while the entire wedding party, vendors included, had been told to come dressed in white for the occasion), we jumped at the opportunity to turn this unique wedding into a reality.”

The photographs of this incredible day – set in the heart of the Cape wine country – really do speak for themselves, but Joelene shares a few highlights about what made this wedding so special.
“We hope this wedding inspires other brides to be brave and bold when making decisions that work best for them,” says Jo.

THE HIGHLIGHTS
* Nadia (a professional makeup artist) did her own makeup for her wedding day and drew her inspiration from ‘old Italian glamour’, keeping her accessories simple and low key;
* The string quartet, which played the bride down the aisle, added the perfect touch of old-world glam and set the scene perfectly;
* A minimalistic colour palette can be very effective when done correctly. Nadia chose white flowers and a neutral tablescape to match her guests’ attire. When the venue was full and they made their entrance … it was grand!
* Despite the overall theme of ‘old-school glamour’, there was a surprise element of a night club ‘after-party’ complete with stage, rigging and lighting! SA deejays Pascale & Pearce had the dance floor rocking all night!

“What inspired us most about being a part of Nadia and Tim’s wedding day, was the fact that they stood firm in their ideas and never once doubted their vision,” says Jolene. “Staying true to who you are as a couple – both creatively and emotionally – goes a long way in ensuring you have the best wedding that suits your needs, and that there is nothing but pure enjoyment from beginning to end. It was a joy to create something that we know will inspire other brides to be themselves and follow their own vision, because there is no right or wrong when it comes to designing your dream day!”
