16-year-old HannaB is a musician who wants to use her art for good.
Hanna Brown has been interested in music since she was four years old, and remembers singing while her grandfather played his guitar. When she was eight years old, her mom recognised her natural talent and she began playing guitar, ukelele and drums. Music is Hanna’s passion, and she wants to use her talent to make a difference. “I want my music to mean something,” she says. For this reason, all of Hanna’s performances raise money for charity.
Earlier this year, she participated in Step Up for Ella, a project that raises funds for children with muscular dystrophy; and did a fundraising performance for Nourish the Children, an organisation that distributes food to children suffering from malnutrition.
Hanna’s mom Cherise has an autoimmune disease, and this is one of the reasons she wanted to use her music to support specific causes. “I recognise that lots of people have struggles and that humbles me,” she says. “So many young people think they can’t do anything to make a difference, but they can.”
Hanna did her vocal training at Carl’s Music Academy in Ballito, where she now spends some of her time teaching. Music keeps her extremely busy, and she spends hours writing, practising and performing. Last year, Hanna released her debut single Shine Your Light and she is currently working on an album, which she hopes to complete next year.
