Born and bred in the Free State, Retha van Zyl is the owner and Principal of Retha van Zyl Real Estate, an estate agency that turns dreams into realty in Woodland Hills Wildlife Estate.
Looking back on her career as a property practitioner, she feels grateful for each person who trusted her with the sale and/or purchase of their erf/home.
The first few years of marketing the estate were very challenging for Van Zyl as it was a new development; and most people she encountered had serious doubts as to whether this security estate would ever succeed.
“I took inspiration from the brave decision my husband, Wikus, and I had made when we purchased our erf in Woodland Hills a year before I started my career as property practitioner. Based on the experiences we had with the developer and the Board of Trustees at the time, I managed to convince quite a few skeptics to make this new Estate their home,” says Van Zyl.
According to Van Zyl, selling property is her calling. “Each invitation to market someone’s property; or to help someone find a new home, is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the personal life of a person, couple or family; and I never take a call for granted,” she relays.
She is tenacious, and never gives up. “I set high standards for myself and work hard to create a positive experience for my clients. When I go through tough times and feel like losing hope; I find comfort in the loving support of my husband; and I search for wisdom from God,” says Van Zyl.
Aside from her profession, Van Zyl practices a number of hobbies such as gardening, photography, and chalk paint – crafts she masters as she goes. Aligning some of her hobbies with her profession, she relishes the opportunity to photograph beautiful homes.
“The greatest compliment on my work, is when a seller proclaims that they would like to buy their own house, based on my advert. I thoroughly enjoy what I do. Most of all, I love creating new relationships with my clients. For a short time, I become a part of their household; sharing in their personal journey,” she says.
Looking ahead to 2023, Van Zyl wishes to re-establish relationships with previous clients and to create opportunities for people to get to know her on a personal level. “My life’s purpose is to serve people with honesty, integrity and empathy. I will put a renewed focus on ensuring that Retha van Zyl Real Estate is the estate agency to trust in Woodland Hills Wildlife Estate,” Van Zyl concludes.
