“It’s important to have a big heart in the beauty industry. Love what you do and know why you are doing it.”
Bernny Thakali is a makeup artist, lash and brow technician and the co-owner of MUD Studio Bloemfontein.
She says she has always had a passion for beauty and desired to turn her passion into a full-time career.
“In 2018, I got an opportunity at MUD to be trained professionally as one of their artists and that’s how my career started,” she says.
“In the beginning, you may feel overwhelmed and left out when you look at how far the other make-ups artists or beauty therapists have come. If this happens, remind yourself that Rome was not built in a day. When you get to the stage where your experience is helping you, then you feel power, and that is the greatest feeling when you’re in this industry,” she adds.
Bernny says she couldn’t be more proud of where she is today. “I feel valued and respected as an employee. I enjoy what I do and I am surrounded by a fantastic team of understanding and amazing people. As a black woman I feel blessed to be entrusted with a share in the company.”
Bernny is driven primarily by her desire to learn new things – big or small – and to take on new responsibilities.
She believes that successful entrepreneurs are resilient, confident, and innovative.
