WOTM: Pulane Nel-Sekepe, OFM/Saliwe Productions

Sparks of love and passion gets Pulane through.

A lover of people, excellent talks, and having fun, Pulane Nel-Sekepe has found her calling as the At Lunch radio presenter on OFM, television producer at Saliwe Productions, actor, and television presenter.

Pulane stated that God is first and foremost in her life, and it is through Him that she found her mission, including her three distinct things.

Her journey was not without hurdles, but she saw them as opportunities to grow. “I believe that growth never occurs in good times, but we can celebrate the lessons and gifts we receive and learn in bad times as well as good times.”

As a people-lover, she explains that, while it may appear to be a little backwards, there is greater fulfilment in being willing to do more for others. “I think the exchange of serving between myself and others is what makes my world go round.”

“Make sure it’s something you really want to do and that there is some sense of love for a part of what you’re going to do,” she advises female creatives. It’s the spark of love and passion that gets you through the difficult moments.

She added that she would have learned to trust her intuition more at the start of her career.  “Insecurity can be an obstruction to progress, and knowing what I know now, I would control my own mindset better and realise that it is impossible to control everything.”

Pulane believes from the start of the media industry as a whole until now, the industry is moving in the right direction in terms of diversity.

“I believe that the radio industry as a whole is shifting toward a more authentic and down-to-earth sound rather than an overly commercialised one and that this creates more space for females to be themselves without the ‘shock jock’ approach.”

With regards to the sisterhood built in the industry, Pulane concludes by noting: “We have a voice, and it gets louder the more we stand together.”
