SHE MEANS BUSINESS: Lizelle Rood – Life Rosepark Hospital

Lizelle Rood is the Nursing Manager at Life Rosepark Hospital. She leads with compassion, purpose and a passion for people.

Since stepping into the role of Nursing Manager at Life Rosepark Hospital in September 2023, Lizelle has brought a fresh sense of direction, purpose and leadership to the hospital’s nursing department.

Originally from Klerksdorp, Lizelle describes Life Rosepark Hospital as a dynamic space filled with opportunity and growth. She says it is a privilege to contribute to its development and to lead a dedicated team of nursing professionals.

Lizelle’s approach to leadership is deeply rooted in her personal values and faith. She says she is passionate about God and that Jesus Christ is her Saviour. “Everything I do, I strive to honour Him,” she explains. Married to her best friend and a mother to two daughters – one a qualified perfusionist and the other a fourth-year nursing student – Lizelle finds strength in her family and draws inspiration from her mother, who lives with them.

Her journey in nursing is not just a career choice but a calling. She says she has always had a deep love for people and a desire to make their lives better. “Nursing is more than a career to me. It’s part of who I am.”

When asked what makes her a woman who means business, Lizelle points to her focus on people. “I am energetic, focused, and passionate about people, especially my team. I firmly believe in building people, because they are the foundation of any strong organisation.”

Despite the demands of her position, Lizelle maintains a strong work-life balance. Her secret is early morning runs with her husband. “Running is my sanctuary. I wake up at 04:15 to run with my husband. It’s our special time to connect, talk about life, and stay grounded.”

Her resilience was tested in 2013 when a back injury threatened her mobility. She says she worried about her future and whether she would ever run again. Through rehabilitation and determination, she overcame the odds. In October, she plans to run the Cape Town Marathon – an achievement that once felt impossible.
