For Cornia van Eck, being a Health Services Advisor at Opulentia is more than just a job—it’s a purpose rooted in compassion and lived experience. After personally facing frustrating encounters with medical aids, she was inspired to pursue a career where she could make sure others never felt the same confusion or helplessness.
Since joining the financial services world in 2015, Cornia has found her passion not only in mastering the intricacies of medical aid and GAP cover, but also in guiding people through them with empathy and clarity. “I love educating my clients on their benefits and helping them get the most out of their medical aid. This is not just about policies—it’s about people.” Creative, hardworking, and detail-oriented, Cornia is constantly seeking out opportunities to expand her knowledge—whether through conferences, training, or new projects.
“The industry is always evolving, and I enjoy the challenge of staying ahead. Learning is part of what energises me.” Her resilience and leadership shine especially during high-pressure moments. When workloads peak, she tackles them with calm focus, prioritisation, and collaboration. “Not everything is urgent. I pause, assess, and then plan—often in consultation with my team. Together we move forward more effectively.”
Balance is something she works at intentionally. As a mother to a spirited four-year-old, Cornia draws her energy from time spent outdoors, being creative, and reading—often with her son right by her side. “He reminds me to step away from the screen and be present. He’s a big part of how I maintain perspective and joy.”
Her signature power item? A simple opal pendant—calming and beautiful, just like her grounded approach to life and work. Though she once dreamed of becoming an advocate, she’s found her true place advocating for people’s well-being in a different but equally meaningful way. Always reachable, always reliable—her phone is the one thing she can’t go without. “I run everything from it—my work, my schedule, my life.”
