Gentlemen of Business: Lester Norkie- Government relations (Central Media Group)

Driven by purpose and a passion for communication, Lester Norkie has built a career in media and stakeholder relations within Central Media Group’s sales team, for both OFM – The Sound Of Your Life, and Mahareng Media & Advertising.

His work places him at the centre of engagement between government, business, and media, where he manages key relationships and develops strategic advertising solutions.

Known for his grounded approach and strong people skills, he focuses on building long-term relationships and creating meaningful impact through his work.

He has the network and connections for anything and everything, so much so that he is often referred to as someone who “can sell ice to an Eskimo”.

“I’m naturally a people’s person – approachable, positive, and solution-oriented. I find real fulfilment in helping others and take pride in delivering value while making a tangible difference through my work.”

Lester believes that success is about growth, impact, and balance. “Professionally, it means delivering consistent value, nurturing strong relationships, and contributing meaningfully. Personally, it’s about peace of mind, continuous self-development, and being able to provide for and support my family,” he adds.

He could not have done it all alone – it is all thanks to the support from various mentors, colleagues, and professionals in the industry.  “Above all, my faith in God has been a constant guiding force, keeping me grounded and shaping how I approach both my professional and personal life.”

Community and youth development means a lot to him and are deeply centred in his day-to-day.

“I also support local efforts where possible and believe strongly in creating opportunities – particularly for young people.”

Although every day differs, his role remains dynamic and people-focused, spanning engagement with premiers, mayors, MECs, and business leaders. He also manages client relationships, develops tailored advertising strategies, and aligns opportunities with both business and community needs.

When he is not finding the next best deal to offer a client, Lester spends time with his wife and two sons. He is also an entrepreneur, exploring opportunities beyond his role in media and sales.

“Staying active and occasionally unplugging helps me recharge and maintain balance,” he adds.

His advice for aspiring gentlemen in business, is that they stay disciplined and consistent. “Be willing to learn continuously and focus on building meaningful relationships. Avoid shortcuts integrity, patience, and long-term thinking will always set you apart.”
