What began as an unexpected opportunity has grown into a lifelong passion for education. Today, Teddi Tokwe leads one of the Free State’s most respected private schools, inspiring young people while proving that purpose is the foundation of lasting success.
For Teddi Tokwe, what began as an unexpected career move soon became a calling that continues to shape young lives every day.
She credits much of her entrepreneurial journey to a former employer she describes as a “serial entrepreneur”, who encouraged her to become involved in the marketing and management of his businesses. That experience eventually led her into education, where she discovered a passion she never expected. “I enjoy seeing how I come alive around the young ones and just being there to experience their growth throughout their years at the school,” she says.
Today, as one of the few Black women to own a successful private school in the Free State, Teddi remains actively involved in Castlebridge’s strategic direction while relying on a strong management team to oversee the day-to-day operations. This balance also allows her time to focus on her wellbeing, other business interests and future ventures.
One of her proudest moments came in 2019 when the school achieved its first 100% matric pass rate. “That was the moment I knew we were on the right track,” she recalls. More than academic results, she believes the school’s greatest achievement is the lasting impact it has on the lives of its learners.
For Teddi, success is measured by the growth of the people around her. Whether guiding teachers, learners or young people through her church, she is passionate about empowering the next generation and proudly considers herself an advocate for youth development.
Her advice to aspiring women in business is to let purpose lead the way. “Never go into business for money, but for the love and passion of what you’re doing. The millions will find their way to you through the hard work and dedication you’ve invested in growing your business.”
She also believes lasting success depends on balance, encouraging women to make time for themselves and their families while building meaningful careers.
