Calum Scott’s opening night of his 2023 ‘Bridges’ World Tour kicked off in Durbs, after an incredible performance by supporting act Martin Gill, and it was magic! Five years after Calum’s first performance in our city, he returned to the Durban Botanical Gardens to make up for a show he cancelled last year (due to safety risks after heavy rains), and he did more than make up for it. In between a few brave attempts to show fans he could ‘praat die taal’, he sang his heart out and the crowd sang along to every single tune. There was screeching and whistling and there were tears pouring down the faces of men, women and teenagers who listened as he shared the emotional journey and the story behind some of his most loved songs. In the end, it was Calum who succumbed to the emotion of the incredible crowd support he received from Durbanites, pausing to say it was the best start to his tour he could ever have imagined.
