As learners and teachers are close to approaching the middle of the year, we seize some motivation and inspiration from our local school principals’. Read on to see what they have to say.
Mrs Shayleen Shum – Forest View Primary School
Forest View Primary School celebrates 50 years of excellence in education this year. As one reflects on this milestone, it raises the important question of what quality education actually comprises of. Whilst the foundations of learning and the delivering of a meaningful curriculum are the core business of each academic day, these are only possible with all the relevant roleplayers being actively engaged in the pursuit thereof.
A strong symbiotic partnership between the school, the parents and the community is essential. Our school motto STAND FIRM encompasses the adaptability to change in challenging times, and embraces our values of honesty, integrity, courage, compassion and service. I wish the staff, learners and parents an equally successful second half of the 2023 academic year as we continue to celebrate our achievements with pride.

Mr Roland Lacock – Highbury Preparatory School
Highbury is a school with a distinguished history. Our founder, Mrs Sibella McMillan, had a passion for education which is deeply etched into the identity of who we are today. Amidst a fast-paced and evolving world, we believe that there is a place for old traditions. Whilst our boys develop skills such as coding and robotics, we believe it is equally important for our boys to display good manners and courtesy.
A modern, vibrant educational approach empowers our boys to engage meaningfully and confidently in our world while at the same time developing the compassion to show empathy for others. Highbury is a Christian school and our boys attend regular chapel services in our beautiful stone chapel.

Mr Pierre Jacobs – Glenwood High School
Glenwood High School has a proud tradition of raising men of strong character and high moral standard, a tradition which is not only continued but is increasingly necessary in today’s society. Faced with a barrage of social dilemmas when leaving school, we believe in a shared responsibility to equip our boys to face these challenges in a way that enriches society. Glenwood will remain the standard around which authentic men are forged and proud Old Boys can gather, ever cognisant of their responsibility as the hope of our great nation.

Mr Rob Holding – Kloof High School
It has been an exciting start to the second term for our Kloof High Family. Our Grade 12 learners enjoyed a fantastic matric dance with a Bridgerton theme, we welcomed McLeod Swimming to KHS and our Academic Support Educators and learners were able to move into our splendid new ASU building. This has five classrooms, breakaway rooms, store rooms and ablution facilities, not to mention an indigenous garden. We are proving to be highly competitive on the sports field in all codes and our rugby players, in particular, have their tails up after triumphing in the Gelofte Night Series. We continue to strive for and to achieve excellence in a nurturing family environment. One Family, One School!

Mrs Ingrid Green – Bright Buttons Pre-School
What your child needs is YOU! In this age of hurriedness and technology, time is a scarce commodity. Our philosophy at Bright Buttons is love, laugh, learn, teaching kindness, honesty and empathy. All children want is love, like hugs and kisses. Children also need laughter through play and fun. Children don’t need your presents they need your presence – only then can learning take place. Education is a gift that no one can take away and is the key to future success. If a child cannot learn in the way we teach, we must teach in a way the child can learn.
