Leading with people at heart

Three Maxprop women share how leadership, property and community all start with people.

Women’s Month offers the perfect opportunity to celebrate the women shaping Maxprop from the inside out. Whether managing community schemes, helping families buy their first home or leading teams across KZN, these three women agree on one thing – property has never simply been about buildings – it’s about people.

Building stronger communities

As Branch Manager of Maxprop Umhlanga’s Community Schemes and Administration division, Tina Chetty believes leadership begins with empathy.

“Buildings are managed by systems, but communities are built by people. Every decision we make affects families, businesses and neighbourhoods, so leading with integrity, resilience and compassion is essential.”

After more than three decades in the property industry, she says the greatest reward is seeing both her team and the communities they manage thrive.

Helping dreams become reality

For Vanessa Champion, Umhlanga Sales and Letting Manager, every property tells a personal story.

“One of the greatest privileges is helping someone write the next chapter of their life.”

She says there’s something especially rewarding about assisting first-time buyers – particularly women – achieve financial independence through property ownership. Outside the office, Vanessa is equally passionate about serving the community through Rotary, believing compassion and collaboration are as important in business as they are in life.

Leading by lifting others

As Hillcrest Branch Portfolio Manager, Francis Owen thrives on the variety her role brings. “No two days are ever the same, and that’s what keeps the work exciting.” She believes the mark of a good leader is helping others grow.

“Sharing knowledge, encouraging continuous learning and watching people develop their confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.”

Away from work, Francis credits her young granddaughter with reminding her to appreciate life’s simple moments – and to never stop learning.

Together, these women demonstrate that successful property management isn’t only about bricks and mortar. It’s about leadership, relationships and making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve.
