Behind every property transfer, bond registration and deceased estate is a team of dedicated women helping clients navigate some of life’s biggest milestones with professionalism, empathy and genuine care.
Buying a first home. Registering a bond. Winding up the estate of a loved one. While these milestones often begin with paperwork, they’re really about people.
Since opening its doors in 1985, Tate, Nolan & Knight has built its reputation on guiding clients through these important life moments. Today, the firm is powered by a team of 20 women working across conveyancing, deceased estates, administration, marketing and management, with many holding senior leadership positions. “People often see the legal documents, but they don’t always see the people behind them,” says Mitisha Naidu, Senior Associate and Head of Conveyancing.
“Success in the legal profession is built on integrity, continuous learning and resilience. Every challenge presents an opportunity to grow, both professionally and personally.”
Mitisha believes the firm’s greatest strength lies in the way its women support both clients and one another.
“Every property transfer or estate tells a personal story. We understand that we’re often helping clients through exciting new beginnings or difficult endings, and it’s a privilege to guide them with compassion, professionalism and care.”
The culture of mentorship and collaboration is evident throughout the firm. Long-serving Firm Manager Lara Scruton, who has been with the practice for more than 15 years, is among several women in leadership roles helping shape the next generation.
The stories behind the team are equally inspiring.
Former receptionist Sonja Smuts has spent the past seven-and-a-half years growing her career with the firm. Now a Deceased Estates Paralegal, she compassionately supports families during some of life’s most difficult times. Alongside her professional journey, she has achieved an inspiring personal milestone, losing 53kg through dedication and perseverance.
Senior Paralegal Shamela Dookchan brings more than 35 years of conveyancing experience, including the past 15 years at TNK. Affectionately known as the firm’s ‘Share Block Queen’, she’s recognised for both her technical expertise and willingness to mentor colleagues.
“One of the things I value most is our commitment to empowering talented women,” says Mitisha. “Knowledge-sharing and mentorship are part of our everyday culture, creating an environment where women are encouraged to grow, lead and, in turn, inspire the next generation.”
At TNK, every role is different, but the purpose remains the same — helping people move forward with confidence.
