Lacuna Bistro’s new menu taps into South African flavours

You can taste the love in every bite. Overnight-braised beef short rib layered between silky pasta sheets, rich béchamel, and a dusting of parmesan snow. And if that’s not enough to make you swoon, try a glass of wine alongside grilled lemon, garlic and herb prawns, topped with a perfectly seasoned avo and homemade marinada aioli. Summer lunches don’t get much better than this.

Lacuna Bistro’s new menu celebrates South African heritage while embracing global flavours, with dishes that feel both familiar and refreshingly new. Using seasonal, locally sourced produce, the team elevates each plate into something special. Charred vegetables, nut brittles, green beans, sugar snaps, baby spinach, and local cheeses all showcase the best of local farmers and fresh ingredients.

International inspiration shines through in dishes like truffle-infused beef tartare, butter chicken fettuccine, gnocchi with butternut and chorizo, and a decadent chocolate opera.

If you’re looking for a standout pairing, Food & Beverage Manager Ofentse Morake and his right-hand man, Executive Sous Chef Thokozane Shongwe, recommend the signature Maslow Beef Short-Rib Lasagna with a glass of Boschendal Nicolas, a Cape blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Merlot. The wine’s dark fruit and spice lift the richness of the ragout, while its smooth tannins mirror the lasagna’s velvety texture. We tried it and it gets our stamp of approval.

The new menu strikes the perfect balance between comfort and curiosity — a melting pot of cultures, textures, and tastes. Escape the bustle of Joburg for a long, lazy lunch on the tranquil lawns of The Maslow Sandton, where good food and good vibes meet beautifully.
