It’s all in the feels

It’s not just about how it looks, but how it feels. And Taryn Clifton has mastered the art of creating weddings that linger long after the last dance.

There’s an understated charm in the way Taryn Clifton speaks about weddings. No theatrics. No over-the-top declarations. Just a calm certainty that tells you she’s done this before, a thousand times over, and still feels every single moment as if it were the first.

Because for Taryn, weddings aren’t just events. They’re living, breathing love stories, layered with meaning, stitched together with detail, and brought to life with intention.

And yes, while she may describe herself as “quietly determined,” don’t be fooled. Behind that serene presence is a powerhouse planner who has orchestrated close to 1800 weddings through her business, To The T Wedding Company. Effortless? Maybe on the outside. Behind the scenes is where the real magic unfolds, until everything feels exactly as it should.

Calm, collected … and just a little bit obsessed with detail
“I’m definitely more of a perfectionist than a romantic,” Taryn says with a soft laugh.
It’s unexpected in an industry built on emotion, but it’s also what sets her apart. Because while romance is what guests see, perfection is what they feel.

“I love everything to feel considered and aligned. The magic really comes to life when everything has been planned and executed beautifully, with intention behind every choice.”

Taryn doesn’t overpower a wedding with her vision. She listens, carefully and intentionally, allowing each couple’s story to lead the way.

“I never want a wedding to feel like my vision forced onto a couple. My role is to guide them and bring their dream to life in a way that feels authentic.”

It’s this approach that turns her weddings into more than just beautiful spaces. They become deeply personal experiences that linger.

The moment that gets her … every single time
After more than a decade in the industry, you’d think the emotion might fade. It doesn’t.
“There are moments that still move me every single time.”

One moment, in particular, never fails. “It’s when the bride is standing at the chapel doors, just before she walks in. There’s this pause … this breath … where everything just is. I always remind my brides to really be present in that moment, because it passes so quickly.”

It’s a small window of time, but one that quietly holds everything. And Taryn feels it too. Every single time.

From Ouma’s flower shop to many weddings later
Long before timelines, spreadsheets, and supplier calls, there were flowers. Lots of them.

“My journey really came to life in my Ouma’s flower shop. I spent my school holidays there, helping and creating little arrangements. I was completely drawn to the beauty of it and the joy it brought to people.”

That early exposure shaped more than a skill. It shaped how she sees and creates.

“Flowers have never just been décor to me. They tell a story, create atmosphere, and bring emotion into a space.”

Somewhere along the way, that love became something more. This wasn’t just a passion. It was a calling. After studying Business Management and qualifying as a Wedding and Events Planner, Taryn turned that calling into a career, and eventually into one of Joburg’s most trusted wedding brands.

“I’m most proud of the trust. Being chosen to be part of such an important day is something I never take lightly.”

The reality behind the romance
Let’s be honest, weddings look glamorous. But behind every dreamy table setting is a planner who’s been up since sunrise, running on instinct, experience, and maybe a snack tucked into her handbag.

“It’s very hands-on. People don’t always see the early mornings, late nights, and the work that goes into making sure every detail is just right.”

Then come the curveballs. Like the time a wedding cake started leaning.

“The supplier wasn’t available, so I had to step in. I adjusted it, added support, and used florals to disguise the imperfections.” Crisis averted. Bride happy. Guests none the wiser. “It reminded me that staying calm and solution-focused is everything.”

Another moment involved a bride set on an outdoor ceremony, despite the weather.
“With very little time, I had to guide her towards an indoor option and reassure her it would still be beautiful. It turned out stunning.”

Because sometimes, being a wedding planner isn’t just about logistics. It’s about being the calm in someone else’s storm.

Motherhood, meaning … and a deeper perspective
Becoming mom to Kaiden added a whole new layer to Taryn’s world. “It’s made me more present and more aware of how quickly life moves.”

That perspective has shaped how she approaches weddings too. “I always remind couples to slow down and take it all in. The day goes by so quickly, and those moments are so meaningful.”

Because weddings aren’t just about the day itself. They’re about the memories that linger and the feeling that stays.

Balancing motherhood and a demanding schedule isn’t always easy, but she credits her support system, especially her hubby. “Balance is about being fully present wherever I am.”

A wedding day, according to Taryn
Spoiler alert. It doesn’t start on the wedding day. “It begins long before. There’s planning, prep, confirmations, and making sure every detail is exactly where it needs to be.”

When the day arrives, everything shifts into motion. “It starts early, coordinating teams, overseeing setups, managing timelines, and making sure everything flows beautifully from beginning to end.”

All of it is done with a calm energy that allows her clients to feel completely at ease. Because when the planner is calm, the couple can be too.

Final touches (and slippers, please)
Inside Taryn’s handbag, you’ll find less lipstick and more of a carefully curated survival kit.
“Scissors, cable ties, double-sided tape … and definitely a snack,” she laughs. Knowing just how often those small items save the day

And by the end of it all? “Heels or takkies? Neither. Slippers. And a lovely glass of wine to end the day.”

More than just weddings
At her core, Taryn is exactly who she says she is. Someone who loves beauty, meaning, and creating moments that matter. A mother. A wife. A creative with an eye for detail. And a woman who has built a career out of turning love stories into unforgettable experiences.

Because in Taryn’s world, luxury is not about excess. It is about care, refinement, and intention.

And long after the music fades and the flowers are carried home, what she leaves behind is not just a beautiful day, but a feeling — one that lingers quietly, wrapped in memory, and remembered exactly as it was meant to be.

Taryn’s wedding wisdom
• Your ultimate wedding day must-have? A trusted planner or coordinator. When someone is confidently running the show behind the scenes, you get to stay fully present and actually soak in every moment.
• The detail that instantly elevates a wedding is luxurious florals paired with thoughtful décor styling. It’s what transforms a space completely and sets that refined, unforgettable tone from the moment guests arrive.
• To truly wow guests, create one standout focal moment — whether it’s a breathtaking ceremony setup, a statement floral installation, or a dramatic reception reveal that makes everyone stop and stare.
• One thing brides often overcomplicate is trying to involve too many people and opinions. A wedding can quickly become stressful when there are too many decision-makers in the mix. The key is to keep your circle small, trust the professionals you’ve chosen, and stay focused on what truly matters to you as a couple. Simplicity, more often than not, creates the most beautiful result.
• Taryn’s favourite blooms? White king proteas for their bold, striking beauty, and tulips for their soft, elegant flow. Together they strike that perfect balance of refined and distinctive.
• Her dream wedding setting is a luxury island destination — ocean views, natural beauty, and that sense of intimacy that only comes with being away in a truly magical place.
• A timeless trend that will never fade? Abundant classic florals paired with soft candlelight. It’s simple, romantic, and always effortlessly beautiful.
