I’ll have an Old-Fashioned, thanks

International Old-Fashioned Week starts on Friday … an annual global celebration for bartenders and discerning consumers who appreciate a well-crafted drink. Globally more than 1300 bars in 60 countries will put their spin on the Old Fashioned cocktail … including some of SA’s hottest spots. Woodford Reserve (a rather special super-premium bourbon) will join in the fun, with its annual Woodford Bourbon Trail campaign … a search for South Africa’s best Old-Fashioned cocktail bar.

For the entire month of November, forty participating bars and bartenders in Joburg, Cape Town and Durban will put down their cocktail shakers and pick up their mixing spoons to create their best rendition of an Old-Fashioned cocktail. So this is the ideal time for bourbon enthusiasts can go to any participating bars, get a map and join the Bourbon Trail, where you can try out some amazing Old Fashioned cocktails.

You don’t have to go to a bar to try one of these tasty tipples! Here’s how to make your own Old Fashioned at home. You’ll need … 50ml Woodford Reserve Distillers Select; 1 tsp brown sugar; 2 dashes bitters; orange zest (for garnish). Simply pop all the ingredients to a mixing glass, add ice, stir for around 30 to 40 seconds then strain into an ice-filled serving glass and garnish with a lightly expressed orange peel.
