As Coordinator: Work Integrated Learning, SETAs and Industry Liaison her work focuses on connecting students and graduates with meaningful workplace opportunities while ensuring SETA-funded projects make a tangible impact. By building strong partnerships with employers and SETAs, she helps bridge the gap between higher education and the world of work.
Although she began her career in the travel industry and she spent a year as an au pair in Denver, Colorado, it was only after returning to South Africa that she discovered her passion for empowering young people through education and skills development.
Much of that impact is felt through the mentorship she provides, particularly to young women entering the workplace. Whether guiding students through professional challenges or opening doors to international opportunities such as the WRSETA CUT Research Leadership Chair Luxembourg Women in Leadership Project, she believes confidence grows through experience, encouragement, and exposure.
Away from the office, Lizelle embraces the busy rhythm of family life with her husband and three children, finding balance through careful planning and appreciating life’s simple moments.
Her advice to young women is that they never stop believing in themselves. “Believe in yourself. Fortune favours the bold. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone – and remember that perfection is the enemy of getting things done.”
Lizelle says it will always be coffee over champagne. She enjoys spending time with family and her animals, and unwinds at the end of a busy day with a glass of red wine shared with loved ones.
